The journey of a simple stone bowl

This was a simple stone bowl created out of a piece soapstone I’ve had for quite some time. I was originally going to make it much more detailed, but the stone seemed to prefer simplicity.

It all started as a raw chunk of soapstone…

I made some rough outlines on it and started hollowing out the concave surface…

After a bit of work, began the rough shaping…

Made the details a bit more crisp…

And polished… It is finished with a 100% natural/non-toxic finish that, unlike most soapstone finishes (natural or otherwise), does not need frequent maintenance. In practice, the polish will last at least 10 years in a low-traffic environment with nothing more than a light dusting.
